Funding was created in 1999 by Gerald R. Emil and Kent W. VanSkiver to fill a
critical need for accident victims in Following an
accident involving injuries, many victims are unable to continue their
employment due to the time needed for the recovery process. With no income, these victims are soon
faced with a financial crisis and little, if any, means available to provide
money for even the basic necessities of life. Gerald,
having practiced as a personal injury attorney for twenty-four (24) years,
saw this problem on a daily basis and faced his clients as they expressed
their desire to receive money either as a loan from him or from immediate
settlement of their accident case. As
the attorney is restricted from loaning money to their client, Gerald was
faced with the dilemma of having his client suffer or settle the case before
it was properly prepared and ready for negotiations. In most cases, the early settlement
amounted to the client having to accept much less than the case was worth. When Gerald sold his law practice in 1996, he remembered the problems created by the victim’s needs and tried to find a solution. He researched the problem and approached several different financial providers, only to find that no one provided loans or funding on their case or lawsuit due to it being prohibited by banking regulations. The ideal of providing money to victims came into being when Gerald & Kent established Advance Legal Funding. |
